Phase I – Completed

Because of your generous donations, Douwstra Auditorium is now well on its way to becoming a destination concert hall. Thank you!

Douwstra has been the heart of Central’s campus since it was built as the college’s chapel in 1939. In the ensuing eight decades, Douwstra has been a gathering place for concerts, lectures, convocation and baccalaureate. Students desired a performance and gathering space that honored the building’s historic architecture while transforming it into a state-of-the-art performance venue.

The $2.2 million Phase I of the renovation is now complete. This phase funded the installation of new:

  • Integrated audio-visual control system
  • Seating
  • State-of-the-art sound mixer and speaker system
  • Paint, tile, trim and flooring
  • Wireless, instrumental and hand-held microphones
  • Larger stage
  • Premium video with multi-track recording capability
  • Assistive listening system
  • Multi-element acoustical improvements

Join us for the Douwstra Music Series in the newly renovated Douwstra Auditorium to hear the amazing difference.
