Central University of Iowa was founded in 1853 and officially open on October 8, 1854. The first class totaled 37 people. This presentation will provide a high-level overview covering highlights of the first half of Central’s history from 1853-1938.
Bruce Boertje is a local historian, focusing on Pella’s history. A lifelong resident of Pella and a 1979 graduate of Central College, Bruce serves on the board of the Historic Pella Trust and contributes a weekly Facebook post regarding some facet of Pella’s unique heritage.
