Remembering Pella’s Mid-20th Century Retail Businesses

Learn the history of some of the better-known businesses from the late 1940s into the 1970s with Central RED at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, Dave and Ardie Sutphen Common Room, Graham Annex.
Bruce Boertje ’79 will discuss numerous Pella businesses including car and implement dealerships, gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and more. We will compare the quantity and variety of businesses that Pella once had with today’s businesses and how the introduction of better roads, big box stores and the internet have impacted local businesses.
The Central RED Society is a volunteer-driven, lifelong learning and social organization with an abiding partnership with Central College alumni and friends who share knowledge, talents and experiences. Membership is no longer required to attend Central RED classes.
