Students are certain to make lifelong connections at Central College. Tons of opportunities exist to connect with people in a familiar community or learn more about people from an entirely different background! There are so many incredible people to discover.
Student Organizations
Students can join current student organizations or start something new. Some current student organizations that promote diversity, equity and inclusion include:
- Alliance of Underrepresented People
- BIPOC+ Coalition
- The Black African American Student Union
- CAPIC (Central’s Asian Pacific Islander Club)
- Common Ground (LGBTQ+)
- OLAS (Organization of Latinx American Students)
- Students Against Sexual Assault
Leadership & Committees
The BELONG initiative is led by teams of students and employees to support professional development, community relationship, communication and recruitment and retention of students and employees. These volunteer team members work alongside campus leadership and the campus community to find ways to further infuse diversity, equity and inclusion into campus.
Central also is a partner with the BIPOC+ Coalition, collaborating with Drake University, Grand View University, Grinnell College, Simpson College and William Penn University to foster community and support for Black, Indigenous and people of color. This coalition provides a safe space for open and honest conversations about personal experiences while empowering students to act as leaders on their respective campuses.
Intercultural Spaces
This is your home, and you're welcome everywhere on campus. But if or when you need a safe space to interact with your peers, we have your back. The Brave Haven Intercultural Lounge is a safer place on campus created to promote inclusion and acceptance by all. This space is a common meeting place for student organizations, available by reservation.
Students have options to request intercultural housing on campus, such as the Language Houses. Central also offers gender-affirming housing and locker room accommodations.
Have Questions?
Central’s Title IX coordinator and equity officer, Jill Anderson, is Central’s go-to person for questions, concerns or conversations about equity and inclusion on campus. Anderson’s role is all about response and prevention to any harassment or discrimination at Central.
Students, faculty and staff who have questions, concerns or want to report an incident can reach out to the Title IX coordinator and equity officer to learn about options moving forward.
