About Sarah Van Waardhuizen
Sarah Van Waardhuizen began at Central College in 2012. Previous to her position at Central she taught K-12 music in the public schools and church settings for 11 years in the Des Moines metro area.
During the fall of 2016, Van Waardhuizen stepped into the full-time, tenure-line position in music education at Central. Van Waardhuizen teaches elementary general music methods, secondary choral, general, and instrumental methods, introduction to music education, show choir and jazz choir techniques, works with music education practicum students, assists with the choral ensembles, and has an active voice studio. She is the Chapter Advisor for Central College NAfME (National Association for Music Education). Her main research area is motivation in music education, specifically involving The Self-Determination Theory. Dr. VW also enjoys playing and teaching the ukulele.
