About Shelley Bradfield
Shelley Bradfield opted to complete a doctorate in media studies because she knew she could watch film and television as a career. In addition to being immersed as a viewer and prosumer of media, Bradfield also ponders how meaning is created through media, the varying uses people make of media and the conditions under which it is produced. Bradfield’s research has been published in national and international journals including “Critical Studies in Television,” “Television & New Media” and “African Studies.”
As a researcher of South African television, Bradfield is fascinated by how media adapts to and is used in specific national contexts, as well as how it travels across these geographical and political boundaries. Besides traveling to South Africa for research (relaxation and connecting with friends and family), Bradfield taught in Mexico in Spring 2015 and has dreams of locating other warm weather destinations to escape the deep freeze of Iowa winters.
