About Timothy Johnson
Tim grew up in Colorado, lived in Valencia, Spain, and taught English as a second language and Spanish in Denver Public Schools. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of California at Davis, researching the transatlantic intersections of arms and letters in early modern Spanish war manuals. He’s taught a wide variety of courses on Spanish language, literature and culture, and his scholarship focuses on colonial and Golden Age Spanish literature. As a translator, his publications include “The Indian Militia” (2008) and “Defending the Conquest” (2010) by the Spanish captain Bernardo de Vargas Machuca, and “Basques and Vicuñas at the Mouth of Hell” (2024).
